“Coronavirus Explained” is a limited series produced by Vox and Vox Media studios that explores how the coronavirus pandemic has changed the world. The Netflix exclusive documentary series features three episodes over one season and examines the efforts taken to combat the pandemic and ways to manage its mental health toll. While the series focuses on Covid-19, it also provides quite a bit of information about other infectious diseases and how they compare to the Sars-Cov-2 virus that causes Covid-19.
The series features Bill Gates as a philanthropist leading the fight against coronavirus. The Gates Foundation has previously funded fights against diseases like malaria and polio, so it already has connections with scientists and researchers with preexisting expertise in infectious disease response. The series also features Maryn McKenna, an award-winning journalist specializing in antibiotic resistance and a Senior Fellow of the Center for the Study of Human Health at Emory University where she teaches health and science writing.
