Globally, menstruation faces a deeply rooted stigma that makes normalizing it or even speaking about it hard to tackle. One of these related issues includes access to sanitary pads. The lack of access to pads can lead to a number of other health issues, and can even interrupt or impact girls’ education. This is true for Kathikhera, a rural village outside Delhi, India. In an empowering effort to combat stigma in their community, the women of Kathikhera manufacture and market their own pads with a sanitary pad machine. The 2019 Academy Award-winning Netflix Documentary Short, Period. End of Sentence explores these revolutionary actions in detail.
