Health Beyond the Blog: Reproductive Injustice: Racism, Pregnancy, and Premature Birth

Monday, February 3rd at 4:30 Dr. Dana-Ain Davis will be at Spelman College to discuss her book, Reproductive Injustice: Racism, Pregnancy, and Premature Birth. Dr. Davis is a professor of Anthropology at CUNY who focuses on feminist theory, public anthropology, and urban political economy. This most recent work of hers explores the role of medical racism in reproductive health for black women. Black women in the US are more likely to give birth to premature babies regardless of income status. This book provides important historical context for this phenomena, showing how contemporary ideas about black women’s reproductive lives continues to be influenced by ideas that emerged during slavery.
