First FDA-approved cannabis-based drug now available in the US

Epidiolex is the first cannabis-based medication approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. It is now available by prescription in all 50 states. Epidiolex is a twice-daily oral solution approved to treat two epileptic syndromes in patients 2 and older.

Despite strong opposition, the FDA approved a powerful new opioid, Dsuvia, last Thursday. FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb claims they will use lessons from the existing opioid crisis to place tight restrictions on the distribution of this new drug. Opponents say Dsuvia’s approval poses a serious danger to the public, as even small doses can be fatal. Dsuvia is approved for use in military combat and other emergencies, to treat intense pain from acute injury.
