Content creator Sara “Sparky” Park shares easy Korean recipes to combat PCOS

A slew of concerns raced through my mind before I moved to Atlanta to start at Emory University. What if I get homesick? What if I don’t get along with my roommate? What if the academics are too overwhelming? But, as a foodie, one concern occupied my mind most: what am I going to eat?

I knew I was going to miss my mom’s homemade Korean food, and I didn’t know how to recreate the food I treasured growing up. That’s when I found the Instagram page @spaarkyyy.

Sara “Sparky” Park is a social media influencer based in Orange County, California. She caught my eye when many of her videos started with “When I got diagnosed with PCOS and prediabetes in my early 20s…”

There are plenty of accounts on TikTok and Instagram that push out new recipes to try, but Sparky’s page is different. It is full of clips sharing quick and simple Korean recipes that she began collecting in hopes of reversing her prediabetes and mitigating her Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) symptoms. I also have PCOS, so having someone who can teach me recipes that both remind me of home and contain ingredients that help mitigate my condition is a priceless combination.

Sparky may have started this page to share her PCOS story and related recipes, but her page is beneficial for anyone, especially college students that are looking for simple Korean recipes.

Sparky’s page is packed with her personal narratives, easy-to-follow recipes, and bright and bubbly content for either Koreans looking for easily accessible tastes of home or college students wanting to try making Korean food themselves.
