Debora MacKenzie is an accomplished science journalist investigating emerging infectious diseases for over 35 years. Along with writing for outlets such as New Scientist, she recently published her own book titled COVID-19: The Pandemic that Never Should Have Happened and How to Stop the Next One.

MacKenzie’s new book gives a refreshing perspective on COVID-19 in the context of past pandemics; she takes a step back and reflects on global reactions to past and present viruses as a whole. With a conversational tone, MacKenzie brings us into the world of scientists and science writers that have warned for years about preparing for infectious disease outbreaks.
Debora MacKenzie’s recent Q&A is a part of the Health and Human Experience Q&A series lead by CSHH Senior Fellow and renowned author Maryn McKenna. Next to share will be Emily Anthes on her upcoming book The Great Indoors: The Surprising Science of How Buildings Shape Our Behavior, Health, and Happiness on October 22, 2020 from 4:30-5:30pm.
