Interested in exploring some new health app technology? Need a new prescription?
If you have an iPhone, a desktop or laptop and a credit card, you might be able to get a new eyeglass prescription right from the comfort of your home without seeing a doctor using the Prescription Check app by Warby Parker. If you are between the ages of 18 and 50 and live in Alabama, California, Colorado, Washington DC, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Vermont or Washington, this service is available to you.
The app uses two tests to assess your correct prescription, which takes about 20 minutes. When you’re done, a doctor in Warby Parker’s network verifies the prescription and gives a further recommendation. In addition to the ease of this process, the prescription only costs $40. Click on the link above to see the app in action.
While convenient for updating a prescription, the American Optometric Association recommends getting an eye check up once a year.
